Jesmonite Homeware Aftercare: How to Keep Your Pieces Looking Beautiful

Jesmonite Homeware Aftercare: How to Keep Your Pieces Looking Beautiful

Jesmonite has become a favourite material among makers and home-decor lovers alike – and for good reason. It’s eco-friendly, wonderfully versatile, and has that lovely soft, stone-like feel that suits almost any home aesthetic. Here at Blossom & Tide, we adore working with jesmonite to create unique trays, coasters, trinket dishes, and decorative pieces inspired by flowers, nature, and the coast of West Wales.

To help your handmade homeware stay beautiful for years to come, here’s a simple, guide on how to care for your jesmonite treasures.

What Makes Jesmonite Special?

Jesmonite is a water-based, non-toxic material that cures to a strong, smooth, stone-like finish. It’s lighter than concrete, lovely to touch, and perfect for adding swirls, terrazzo chips, natural inclusions and the occasional sprinkle of Blossom & Tide sparkle.

Even though it’s durable, a little gentle aftercare helps it stay looking its best.

Sealed With Natural, Hand-Blended Goodness

All Blossom & Tide jesmonite pieces are sealed using UhOhHome’s natural hand-blended polish, made with:

  • Organic virgin coconut wax

  • Soy wax

  • Sweet orange essential oil

This blend creates a breathable, food-safe finish that enhances the natural colours of jesmonite while offering protection from everyday moisture and marks. The gentle citrus scent is a lovely bonus when your piece is freshly polished.

How to Clean Your Jesmonite Pieces

Cleaning is simple and low-maintenance:

  • Wipe with a soft, damp cloth.

  • Use a mild, non-abrasive soap if needed.

  • Avoid harsh cleaners, bleach, or scrubbing pads as they may damage the sealer or dull the surface.

For coasters and trays, a quick wipe every now and then keeps everything looking crisp and fresh.

Water & Jesmonite: What You Need to Know

Jesmonite is water-resistant, not waterproof. Your pieces will handle splashes, cup rings, and day-to-day use, but:

  • Don’t submerge or soak them.

  • Wipe up standing water when you can.

  • In bathrooms or kitchens, keep pieces away from areas that stay damp for long periods.

Heat, Sunlight & Placement

To keep colours vibrant and the finish smooth:

  • Avoid placing pieces on or near radiators, hobs, or hot appliances.

  • Keep them out of direct sunlight for long periods, as UV light may cause fading.

Jesmonite loves a cosy corner or a gentle patch of daylight.

Handling Stains & Marks

Thanks to the UhOhHome natural polish, your homeware has a protective barrier – but it still likes a bit of care:

  • For light marks, use warm water and a soft cloth.

  • Avoid oily substances sitting on raw or unsealed areas.

  • Never use abrasive cleaners; they will wear down the polish.

If a piece starts to lose its sheen over time, you can gently re-polish it using a natural wax suitable for porous stone-like materials.

A Quick Note on Breakability

Jesmonite is strong but still a handmade material:

  • Dropping it onto hard floors may cause chips or cracks.

  • When using trays for jewellery or keys, place heavier items down gently.

Enjoy Your Handmade Piece

Every Blossom & Tide jesmonite item is crafted with care, inspired by the peaceful coastline and wildflowers of West Wales. With a touch of gentle aftercare, your piece will stay beautiful, vibrant, and ready for daily use.
